My works incorporate metaphoric imagery, and often times, language, which allude to prevailing cultural, political, social, and environmental issues. I grew up in the Midwest in both urban and rural environments. During this time, I became keenly aware of the various hazards these settings could imbue on the environment, and the human condition.

After receiving a master's degree in clinical psychology, and working with traumatized children, I was shocked at the degree and pervasiveness of child abuse. This instilled a kind of moral fury in me, and opened my eyes to other atrocities occurring worldwide. My paintings express this dark side of humanity in hopes of creating awareness and action from citizens and governments both here and abroad.
